Adult Basic Education (ABE) offers non-credit classes in GED Preparation, and Basic Job Skills both on and off campus.

All ABE/GED/ESOL courses require permission to register and are continuous enrollment unless otherwise noted.

• Must a Washington State resident.
• Must be 16 years of age or older, is not enrolled in high school, has educational needs below the level equivalent of high school completion (under 19 years of age must have a release from their school districts.)

Most classes meet for two and one half hours twice a week for ten weeks per quarter. If necessary, students can continue to take classes for multiple quarters.

Morning, day and evening classes are held at the Highline Community College main campus. There are several off-campus evening classes. New off-campus locations are created on an ongoing basis. Check the class schedule.

Non-credit ESOL classes provide five different levels of instruction to help adults who have limited English skills. Improvement is achieved only by advancing through all five levels. English as a Second Language credit classes focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking and help prepare students for college level classes.

• Individuals holding temporary visas such as International students, business travelers, or tourists cannot attend these classes. See the International Programs website for more information.
• Students under the age of 18, not enrolled in secondary school, must have a release authorization from their school district.

ESOL classes usually run for eleven weeks, two and one half hours per class session, 2-4 times per week. Classes are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings.
